DJs

We now have pictures and profiles for most of our presenters, but if your favourite isn't here, why not ask them to get one next time they are on air!

Tuesday: 10 - 11.30pm

Fresh New Talent for 2016, Billy is bringing his musical tastes and charming personality to the Cracker Airwaves.

Friday: 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Darren Crawford has been a Radio Cracker member since 2009, mostly because the studio is always warm during broadcast and the craic is always 90.

In previous years he has hosted the Saturday Breakfast show and the weekly Drivetime show, but this year he is sticking with music from the 1990s from Brit Pop to Eurodance, he will have it covered.

Luckily (or not so luckily) he also helps out with the technicial side of the broadcast, which some would consider to be nice.

Thursday 8:30pm - 10:00pm

Local Country Singer and future Grammy Award winner Sara Crockett joined Neil Jordan last year with the challenge to convert him to country music and she won! He has been playing country music all year!

Tue - Thu 11:30am - 1:30pm. Sundays 10:00pm - 11:30pm
Gordon Dawson likes all good music whatever the genre, except rap! He has been involved with Radio Cracker almost from the very beginning and we are slowly, but surely, dragging him “kicking and screaming” into the digital age.

Gordon is meticulous with all he does and will never be seen with a hair out of place. He has a great sense of humour and is especially fond of a good joke book. This year we might buy him a new one though!
Thursday: 5.30 - 7pm

Catherine has an in-depth knowledge of a wide range of music, and brings her ecclectic taste of genres to the Cracker line-up.

Tuesday & Thursday: 11.30am - 1.30pm

DJs from Slemish College, Ballymena.

Saturday 11am - 1pm

Colly a real child of the 60s well more of a teenager of 60s really. He was the tone deaf bass player in a pop band from Dungannon in the mid sixties. And his biggest regret was giving up his ticket to see the Beatles live in Kings Hall in 1965. And pleease dont ask Collly to regale you with his story of how Mick Jagger once spoke to him. However you can be sure Colly has an extensive knowledge of the music of the 60s

Sat: 8 - 9.30am

Amy has been involved with cracker as a presenter and technician since 2009.

Saturday 5.30 - 7pm; Sunday 2:30pm - 4:00pm; Wednesday 10pm - 11:30pm

Neil Jordan is very fond of computers and in fact is responsible (if that's an appropriate word) for the Radio Cracker website and anything else that plugs in anywhere in the Radio Cracker studio.

Neil has been involved with Radio Cracker for over 10 years now and has almost got to grips with the whole DJ'ing thing. He's a slow learner but we have high hopes for him in the future.

Neil is a big fan of cheese especially cheddar, cheesy jokes and cheesy pop tunes. Tune in Saturdays for his favourite cheesy pop tunes. He'll even play your favourite too and not tell anyone who requested it if you're too embarrassed.

Neil also has a serious side though and his show on Sundays and Wednesdays will be a lot less manic when he plays his favourite hymns and carols, and slips in a few Salvation Army Band numbers.

Mondays: 7 - 8.30pm

Ian Kennedy has been involved with Cracker for 10 years now and is a working DJ, having been in the game for over 30 years fronting rock bands and doing promo work for David Hull, Belfast.

As far as his taste in music is concerned, Ian says, "Let there be rock". He is especially fond of a spot of air guitar while on air and he gets so involved with it that he has difficulty staying on the chair!

Sundays at 8:30pm
I have a varied choice of Christian music which ranges from the present day to the 1960s, from international stars to local singers and from soloists through quartets to choirs and bands.

Hope you enjoy the selection. Contact the station and ask if you want a particular hymn and I will try my best to oblige.
Wednesdays 8:30pm - 10:00pm

Iain has been involved with cracker for 7 years now and this year he will be joined by Marc for the third year running. They will be playing a wide range of material including anything current, chart music and any other 'rhythmic alternative' (but no country)

They like to keep their listeners involved and on their toes with their requests, music and most importantly good 'oul banter'. A show for the young, and young at heart.

Tuesday 7:00pm- 8:30pm and Sunday 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Sammy has been a presenter at Radio Cracker for the past 15 years and when he first became a presenter he was aided by Mr Jack Adams, (who helped him with the controls on the desk, while Sammy did all the talking and choosing of the music he featured). After only 2 years, Sammy was confident enough to work the desk by himself.

At first his selection of music covered 60’s, 70’s, 80’s  Pop and some American and Irish Country artists, although over the past 4 years, he now concentrates solely on the best of Irish Country musicians and singers.

A few years ago Sammy took the decision to introduce his wife Rosemary to his listeners. She helps him by reading out all items of importance and of course his dedications on his show. Although he is blind, Sammy doesn’t let his disability stop or hinder him from helping those less fortunate than himself.

Sammy and Rosemary will also be presenting a Country Gospel show on Sundays at 5:30pm this year.

Weekdays 3:30pm - 5:30pm

Local star Billy McFarland needs no introduction to most. Billy has been heavily involved in the music scene for over 60 years with his own showband. Billy has been involved with Radio Cracker for many years now and hosts what is probably the most popular show in our line up, judging by the volume of calls and requests he receives.

Billy plays mainly Irish Country and seems to know most of the artists personally. Most years Uncle Hugo pays a wee visit to Billy to receive a DJ refresher course live on air!

Saturday 3:00pm - 5:30pm

Jay McIlroy has been involved with Radio Cracker since he was 13 (that means he has been involved for nearly 20 years!!!). He started as a technician and then progressed through the ranks and now is one of our top DJ's. (Only joking) :)

You will find him on Saturday evenings this year.

Jay plays most kinds of music except Country!!!!! Closest thing you will get to country on Jay's show is Taylor Swift. :) He specializes in tunes that annoy Gordon Dawson!!!

Thursday: 10 - 11.30pm

Some might class Tom as a Radio Cracker Veteran due to the numerous years of support Tom has provided.  There is nothing that Tom does not know about radio, and Radio Cracker appreciates his service.

Satuday - 19:00 - 20:30

Brian is enjoying being back with Radio Cracker so much that he is giving up his Saturday evenings to host his show filled of top music.

Weekdays 7.30 - 9am

Adrian has been involved with Radio Cracker for more years than he cares to remember, and is returning to the Breakfast Show this year each morning, sharing the early starts with Ally Stewart.  Expect a wide range of music - a mixture of current songs and classic tracks from the 70s, 80s and 90s, with a few wildcards thrown in for good measure. Start your day the Cracker way - let us make your journey to work or school just that little bit more enjoyable.

Thu 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Sandy is a real veteran of Radio Cracker having been involved in the very first year. He then took a break for a few years and returned 17 years ago when he thought most people would have forgotten him from that first year!

Sandy plays mostly modern music and the odd funny song. He hates Country and Western! ZZZzzzzzzzzz

Sandy will be joined this year by his new friend Bobby.

(By the way, Sandy is the one on the left in his photo!)

Saturdays 9:30am - 11:00am

DJ Ray has been involved in cracker for over 15 yrs. His music includes, 70s, 80s, 90s and noughtys, chart, r and b and the top 40.

Ray's unique competition on his show is crackeroke, which involves members of the public having a sing a long live on air to their favourite track and the listeners then choose the winner.

Wednesday 8:30pm - 10:00pm

This is Philip's 4th year at Cracker following a debut that critics (his wife) said changed the landscape of broadcasting as we know it. She also said he played 'some amount of rubbish.'

Here's to the craic.

Saturdays 1pm - 3pm

Warren Smyth who hails from Banbridge in Co Down, is recognized and respected as one of Ireland’s finest Country Gospel singers and radio presenters. Having recorded a number of critically acclaimed Country & Gospel Albums in the past, he has been presented with the coveted ‘Male Vocalist of the Year’ title at the Country Music Ireland Awards and also earned the title of ‘Country Music Radio Presenter of the Year’ at the NICMA awards due to the success of his ‘Keep it Country’ Show on Downtown Radio, which Warren presented for over 10 years and helped it become one of Ireland’s most popular & most listened to radio request shows every Sunday Evening.

Warren’s music is regularly play-listed as far away as USA & Australia and he has appeared at concerts all over the UK & Ireland, also sharing the stage with some of American Country Music’s greatest artists including Charley Pride, Crystal Gayle, Collin Raye & Hal Ketchum to name but a few. His career highlight has been without doubt to perform on stage at the World Famous ‘Grand Ole Opry’ in Nashville Tennessee with his long-time friend, the late, great George Hamilton IV. His most recent country gospel album is called ‘Reason To Believe’, which includes songs of faith, hope & love and is available on the Sharpe Music Label.

Warren, who is happily married to Sharon and has three teenage children Kerri, Matthew & Connor, is looking forward to his third year as part of the dedicated presenting team at Radio Cracker and hopes that you can take the time to join him for his weekly show, which will bring a blend of the best in Irish, American & Country Gospel Music every Saturday afternoon from 1-3pm.

Tuesday: 8.30 - 10pm, Friday: 10 - 11.30pm

Starting off with a Friday show featuring his favourite Rock & Heavy Metal anthems and now also hosting a midweek show, there is no end to the talents that Wilbert brings to Radio Cracker

Weekdays 7.30 - 9am

Ally Stewart, aka DJ Cardigan, aka DJ Big A as you might guess is rather tall and very handsome (even if he says so himself) unlike the rest of the DJ team who really do have faces for radio.

Ally has been involved with Radio Cracker now for over 10 years and has a very wide and varied taste in music, although he usually just plays that silly pop stuff on the radio.

Weekdays: 9:00am - 11:00am

Local retired headmaster Craig Whyte has been involved with Radio Cracker for about 10 years now and plays a selection of popular music. Craig will be fronting the ever-popular schools spot this year along with his good friend Billy Bell.

Experienced with standing with a PA system and entertaining parties of people Dave has now joined Cracker in 2016 to transfer these skills to the radio.
